Perry was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). She made her first appearances on television as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on Roseanne, an ABC sitcom Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let her pursue acting before she reached the age of 18. Perry claimed she felt nervous to be an actor during high school, but started performing at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she got small roles on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry her back home California, where theater jobs were available. Perry performed with her mom on stage in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. Her father portrayed her in her role on the ABC drama Scandal. In addition, she played her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon which was a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The character was assigned by audition despite the fact that she was a cousin to the character.
